The chapter“Forward and backwards: sexual violence in Portuguese news media”, by Júlia Garraio, Sofia José Santos, Inês Amaral and Rita Basílio Simões (DeCodeM and UnCoveR projects) for the Routledge Companion on Gender Media Violence (2023), presents an overview of the trends and patterns in news coverage of sexual violence in Portugal, focusing on four of the most popular rape stories in the first two decades of the 21st century: the case Casa Pia, the Telheiras rapist, Gaia's sentence and the rape accusation against Cristiano Ronaldo.
